Watching Sussex’s thumping win over Glamorgan last weekend, for a moment, the constant sense of existential dread which has surrounded the club since February lifted slightly.

From a home fan’s point of view, the game was perfect. Former India international turned club favourite Jaydev Unadkat steamed in and annihilated Glamorgan in under two sessions.
By the time star-boy James Coles came to the crease on day two, Sussex had already almost levelled the scores.
And then he smashed a career-best double century which eclipsed the total the entirety of Glamorgan’s batting unit had managed.
