It was just after the Powerplay at Headingley, with England chasing 322 for victory in the second ODI against Sri Lanka, that WinViz gave Harry Brook’s side a 93 percent chance of winning.
England were 82-0 off 10 at the time and while I won’t pretend to understand the mathematics powering Winviz, the optimism seemed plain barmy.
Yes, Sri Lanka’s opening bowlers had sent down an array of what Graham Gooch used to call buffet bowling, but successfully chasing anything over 300 usually requires at least one player to push a personal best and that had yet to happen.
