One of the things I’ve always loved about cricket is the social side. The cricket I know comprises a day in the field, broken by a communal tea of scones and sandwiches, and followed by a trip to the local pub to discuss the game over a pint.
It was always thus, and this convivial afternoon routine, and the fact that it encroaches into evening shadows and traditional pub opening hours, makes it unique among sports.
Evening celebrations include the buying of jugs to reward the feats on the field and sometimes outlandish fines.
