As Britain readies itself for its seventh prime minister in a decade, there appears to be a crisis of leadership and not just within politics.
Cricket, too, is suffering with the recent, unexpected departure of Ben Stokes as Test captain and the search for a suitable replacement.
If succession planning was efficient, that person would be 27-year-old Harry Brook.
He has been Stokes’ vice-captain since last September and England’s white-ball leader since Jos Buttler jacked in that particular job 15 months ago.
