Just Champion: Ben Compton shines for Kent

On the day a 14-year-old made his debut in the IPL and hit his first ball over extra cover for six, and in the week it was revealed the Olympic Games cricket tournament will be played at a temporary venue called Fairgrounds, the enduring appeal of the sport’s oldest competition, the County Championship, was in evidence once more.
Easter holiday crowds flocked to an intriguing round of matches and one of the game’s most storied names, Compton, showed it does not all have to be about the razzamatazz, as his unbeaten hundred saw Kent fight back against Gloucestershire.
