Ahead of the first game of the season at Northampton, Adam Hollioake, Kent’s new head coach, called a team meeting.
He stood up and addressed the players.
“Listen, you boys, you don’t know how to play cricket,” he said.
The Kent lads weren’t particularly impressed.
‘Smokes’
They may have had a rough time of it of late, culminating in Championship relegation last summer, but they are professional cricketers.
However, the coach was adamant: “I’m sorry, boys, you just don’t know how to play the game - but I’m going to teach you.”
