Essex seamer Cook signs two-year contract extension

The 21-year-old has committed his future to the Chelmsford club

21-year-old Sam has signed a new deal with that will see him stay at until the end of the 2020 domestic campaign.

The right-arm seamer made his first-class debut at the end of 2016 and signed his first professional contract with Essex the following year.

Cook impressed toward the back end of Essex’s title winning campaign in 2017, including taking a memorable maiden five-wicket-haul as were blown away for a meagre total of 76.

In 2018, Cook has taken 32 wickets in 24 games across all formats while the youngster has taken 49 matches in 18 first-class across his fledgling career.

Speaking to Essex’s official website, Cook said: “I’m over the moon to be signing an extension until 2020. Being a professional cricketer is what I’ve always wanted to do, so to extend my stay at such a brilliant is a dream come true.

“It’s a really nice way to end what has been a good season for the and hopefully that will continue long into the future.”

Essex head coach added: “Sam is a fantastic young bowler who has had another good year. We’re delighted that he’s signed an extension and we’re really looking forward to seeing him develop even further over the coming years.”
