Katya Witney examines why England continue to struggle in women’s Test cricket, arguing the defeat to India at Lord’s exposed deeper issues ahead of next year’s Ashes.

 

England slumped to a 270-run defeat in the first-ever women’s Test match at Lord’s, continuing their losing streak in home Tests which dates back to 2005.
There are plenty of explanations at hand for why England lost this specific Test match.
They were playing in the T20 World Cup final four days before, while India had an extra week to re-set from their own tournament disappointment.
During that time, India held targeted red-ball practice sessions at Wormsley, before moving over to Lord’s to prepare at the beginning of the week.
