Yorkshire have postponed Wednesday’s Vitality Blast match with Derbyshire due to a fairly severe case of World Cup fever taking hold of the nation.
The Vikings clash with Derbyshire coincides with the England football team’s semi-final against Croatia, who kick off just 30 minutes after the T20 fixture was scheduled to begin.
It is the first time the Three Lions have reached the last four of the tournament in 28 years, leaving Yorkshire with the prospect of a lowly attendance.
A statement read: “Following England’s progression to the semi-final of the FIFA World Cup, Yorkshire County Cricket Club believe that it is in the best interests of the spectators to reschedule the fixture.
“The decision has taken into consideration travel advice for the Headingley area on Wednesday night.”
The match will now take place on July 30, meaning Jack Brooks has had his wish granted.
