How did it come to this? Two seasons ago, Lancashire were comfortably midtable in Division One, having lost just once all year. In 2024 that number ballooned to six, consigning them to a first relegation since 2018.
Any hopes of bouncing back up at the first time of asking have been severely dented by a winless start to the season, now more than a third of the way through.
Their fans, for whom gallows humour is a sole comfort, joke that they will somehow find themselves in a non-existent Division Three next year.
