Every County Championship season is a story.
Not the shallow soap operas of white-ball cricket but a classic Agatha Christie – emotive, evocative, steeped in a century of meaning and, above all, unpredictable.
The red-ball reset that started with this round of matches is the season’s last act: six chances to alter the narrative arc of your campaign and, just perhaps, write yourself a bit of history.
We placed a metaphorical bookmark in this tale over a month ago, so a brief scene-setter is required. As you will see, this season is less of a whodunnit, more of a who’ll-win-it.
