I first met Shane in 2000.
It was a life-changing moment, but it could have very nearly not happened at all. There was so much media speculation about which county he was going to go to. It seemed to come down to Hampshire and Lancashire. It must have been hard for him to turn down Lancashire – it absolutely ragged there, and it was the scene of the ‘Gatting ball’ – but thankfully he decided to head down south.
