The lot of a professional domestic cricketer is crazy: he plays way too much cricket between April and September, then far too little in the other six months.
To some degree, it is a peculiarity of our domestic game, which in essence comprises of six months on and six months off.
For some cricketers, there is a possibility that they will not practise their skills – batting or bowling – in a competitive team environment for more than 20 weeks. Imagine that in football, tennis, any sport really.
