Rishabh Pant’s courage was laudable, but the time has come for substitute replacements, writes Phil Walker

The fateful moment came late on day one and in typically weird fashion, when Rishabh Pant, having glided serenely to 37, decided to essay a reverse sweep against Chris Woakes.
The England seamer may have lost a yard to the years, but he’s still no slouch; Pant gets the thinnest of bottom edges, but can’t stop the ball careening on the full onto the outer edge of his front foot.
