My better half came along to the second day of Surrey v Essex at The Oval last weekend.
To be fair, I waved enough red flags – “this is the slow stuff ”, “four full days for a draw and we’ll be very happy about it” - but, with her usual decisiveness, she confirmed her intentions in the nick of time for us to race out the door, run to the station and see the fast train that would have got us there for the start of play leave the platform.
