Kent all-rounder Will Gidman to retire from playing for coaching role

“The chance to work with some exciting young talents in the second XI is a great one for me”

has announced he be calling time on his 11-year playing career to move into coaching at Kent.

The 33-year-old has taken the decision to work as a player-coach for the ‘s second XI as Min Patel continues his involvement with the Under-19 set-up.

Gidman has scored 5,000 runs across all formats and claimed a total of 276 wickets with his right-arm medium . He has been embedded with the seconds for much of this season, scoring 54 at Beckenham in a against on June 28.

“I feel I’ve given the game everything I can as a player and the time is right to move into coaching.

“I’ve enjoyed working with Matt Walker, and the first team squad in recent weeks and with Min in second team too.

“The chance to lead the second XI for a couple of weeks and work with some exciting young talents is a great one for me as I make the transition from cricketer to coach.

“I’ve worked with some experienced players and coaches and hope to share my knowledge with the lads and help them on the pathway to becoming established first class cricketers.”
