Former England opener Carberry leaves Leicestershire

The 38-year-old leaves after spending only half a season as captain of the club

Former opener Michael Carberry has left Leicestershire by mutual consent.

The 38-year-old left hander joined the on loan from in August2017 and was made two months later but he was stripped of the duty in May this year and made his last appearance for the shortly after.

The decision to replace him as captain, with , came after an internal review at the county with head coach having made the final decision.

Carberry, who undertook treatment for in 2016 which saw his career come to a halt, had been considering legal action against the county for what he claimed was a decision made with no reasoning given.

In a statement on the club’s official website, Leicestershire said: “Leicestershire Club and Michael Carberry have agreed to part company by mutual agreement.

“Leicestershire County Club would like to wish Michael all the very best for the future.

“The club will not be making any further comment.”
