Eoin Morgan recalls England’s 2015 World Cup humiliation on eve of New Zealand match

Eoin Morgan recalls the “humiliating” loss to New Zealand, tomorrows opponents, four years ago.

Morgan

has described the bruising eight-wicket defeat faced by his side, by tomorrows opponents , during the 2015 as “eye-opening” and “humiliating”.

Morgan added that his experience of events that day was “as close to rock-bottom as I’ve been. Certainly as a and as a player.”

“Being beaten off the park like that was humiliating. New Zealand proved a point that you can actually be really good humans and grow the game and play in your own way and at the same time.”

Many believe that the defeats to New Zealand and Bangladesh in particular during England’s 2015 campaign were the catalyst for England’s new aggressive approach.

The comments come on the eve of a critical World Cup game as England seek to seal qualification to the semi-finals with victory.

Meanwhile New Zealand, whilst unlikely, could still technically be knocked out on Net Run Rate and so will be looking for a win to avoid any mishaps and ensure they don’t go into the semi finals on the back of three successive defeats.

Eoin Morgan also highlighted that he was confident key men and would both be fit for tomorrow’s crunch match at Chester-le-Street after both have had recent worries.
