Cricket Scotland have handed out 20 national contracts for the 2026-27 cycle.

The contracted players have been selected through a clear, structured process aligned to Scotland’s ICC competition priorities in the next twelve months.

Ongoing performance monitoring, defined squad roles and collaboration across coaching and performance staff have contributed to the selections as the national teams build towards upcoming key global events, as well as recognising and developing the potential of high-performing players.

Steve Snell, Cricket Scotland’s head of performance, said: “We’re really pleased to be offering contracts to this year’s group of players.”

Opportunity

He continued: “They represent recognition for recent and current performances as well as offering opportunity for future development across both squads, and there’s a really exciting summer ahead.

“The women’s team have a home Tri-Series to look forward to next month ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England, where we expect them to have great support.

“It’s a hugely pivotal time for the women’s game in Scotland. One of the areas I believe where the women’s contracts work well is the balance of a shared model with some counties to support players, combined with designated and evolving support provided on the ground in Scotland by our coaching team.

“The men’s squad are at a critical point in their Cricket World Cup League 2 cycle, and their contracts provide an opportunity for our players to train all year round and ensure we are ready for upcoming series.”

Benefits

Snell added: “With an exciting tour to Nepal next month, followed by our home series in August, we are optimistic about the team’s prospects of finishing in the top four with a view to next year’s global ICC Qualifier.

“We’ve seen the benefits of the contracts system to the development of both squads.

“The work that women’s head coach Craig Wallace has done with players based in Scotland, such as Megan McColl, whose performances have led to her receiving opportunities with Glamorgan, or in the development of Darcey Carter, are testament to that.

“Equally, with Owen Dawkins now in situ as men’s head coach, he has the flexibility of working across the country with our players at various locations, with most recently Dunfermline and Dalgety Bay added to a growing list of venue partners that are being utilised to drive player development at close quarters.

“In order for us to continue competing on the field, it’s essential we continue to work smartly and diligently off it creating more opportunities for our players to develop.”
