West Indies all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite has called for his side to emulate England‘s white-ball revival following a disappointing Cricket World Cup campaign.
England had a disappointing 2015 World Cup as they won only two of their six group stage matches. Their 2015 campaign included disappointing losses to New Zealand and Bangladesh with many citing those losses as the catalyst for England’s change in approach.
“We have some time off, some aching bodies will get time to recuperate and then it’s about finding ways and combinations to compete and win series.
“Hopefully we can take that winning mentality into the next World Cup. If you look at 2015 and what England did after the World Cup, they have built straight up to the 2019 World Cup and it’s paying dividends.”
Carlos Brathwaite had a largely underwhelming World Cup for the West Indies, notwithstanding a defiant century against New Zealand, as his 9 wickets came at an economy rate of over seven whilst he compiled only 154 runs.
His form comes as his spot in the West Indies side has come under greater pressure with some supporters disappointed at the non-inclusion of the likes of Keemo Paul and Dwayne Bravo.
Brathwaite also suggested that despite the poor tournament, the World Cup could be a learning experience echoing Nicholas Pooran’s thoughts.
“Sheldon Cottrell had a fantastic tournament and at times like these it’s easy to let those things go missing.
“But as a team we came together, we highlighted the guys that we thought had good performances and the guys that didn’t will take the lessons and come back from it so we can start to win bilateral series leading up to the next World Cup.”
Much has been made of the West Indies younger players and it will be down to the likes of Hope, Hetmyer and Pooran to continually justify the selectors faith in them.
