Emilio Gay would have been on England’s radar before his match-winning knock against Lancashire on Monday.
But the clamour for him to be handed an international opportunity following his 159 not out (off just 211 balls) against Lancashire on the final day at the Riverside had reached deafening proportions by Tuesday morning.
Ryan Campbell, Durham’s head coach, is in no doubt that the 26-year-old has the raw materials required to build a career in international cricket.
He also thinks that Gay is in the best possible company at the Riverside.
