The pinnacle of the men’s game differs from player to player. Ask an England or Australia Test player, and they’ll tell you there’s no greater contest than an Ashes.
For players who don’t have the opportunity to play in an Ashes series, however, – ie. pretty much everyone – that peak will vary.
For women, however, there’s a much more straightforward answer. The 50-over World Cup is a universal zenith.
As the only international 50-over tournament in the cycle, it has a power that other tournaments don’t possess.
