Mark Butcher: Cricket is not about ‘fairness’ and nor should it be

There’s been some talk this summer about Test cricket introducing substitutes for injured players, in light of Chris Woakes’ shoulder injury and Rishabh Pant’s broken foot. Spare me, really.
If you want fairness, go and follow something else. Cricket is like life. It’s not fair – sometimes you just get unlucky, and that’s how it goes.
If one of your players goes down on the first morning, it’s just bad luck. I’m very happy with the status quo as it is.
