Last week saw the passing of Sir Garfield Sobers, arguably the greatest cricketer ever to have played the game.

His career, which ended in 1974, was before my time, but I grew up with an appreciation of what a genius he was.
He was my dad’s favourite player and he had the chance to meet Sobers when he was living in Australia and playing for the South Australian youth squads.
He even had the opportunity to bowl at him in the nets at the Adelaide Oval during the West Indies’ 1965/66 tour of Australia.
