It was significant that Joe Root was used as the mouthpiece for the PCA’s call last week for a wholesale review of a chaotic summer schedule.
Because according to his former mentor at Yorkshire, Kevin Sharp, a lack of Second XI cricket in high summer could create a situation where the best young talents no longer develop at the kind of speed the former England skipper did.
