The 2024 champions posted 191-5 after losing the toss, opener Short facing 56 balls and striking eight fours and four sixes. In reply, Surrey were skittled for only 134, 25-year-old seamer James Hayes marking his Blast debut on loan from Nottinghamshire took 3-23.
