However, according to the man who worked with 100mph-man Shoaib Akhtar and was described by Dale Steyn as the only coach he has had who focused exclusively on speed, it does not have to be one or the other.
Ian Pont, who has just launched the National Fast Bowling Academy in Hertfordshire, has beenworking on fast bowling for 25 years so when he says that it is time for the myths about pace to be condemned to the past, cricket really should listen.
