News in brief: Sam Cook on the verge on England Test debut

Cook’s Test bow one step closer
Essex’s metronomic seam bowler might at last be on the verge of his Test debut. He was rested for Essex’s game with Worcestershire, making it likely he will make his bow against Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge next month.
The 27-year-old has 318 first-class wickets at 19.77 and has been close to full international colours for some time, most recently when a hamstring injury put him out of contention for a place against West Indies last summer.
After impressing on the Lions tour of Australia over the winter, this year Cook has seven wickets at 28.42. England selectors...
