Looking at England’s 16-man squad for the first two Test matches of their upcoming series against Pakistan, it’s either very comprehensive or it’s incomprehensible. They’re trying to cover a lot of bases, essentially to fill the three roles that Ben Stokes had in the team.
All I can say is good luck, Joe – because the reappointed skipper finds himself in the same situation he was in during his first stint as captain when Stokes was unavailable. The end result – just as it was back then – is a bit muddled.
