Warwickshire sign Australian opener Jake Weatherald for 2027 season

Warwickshire County Cricket Club is delighted to announce the overseas signing of Australian opener Jake Weatherald for the 2027 season.

The 31-year-old left-hander will join Warwickshire ahead of the start of the 2027 campaign and will be available for the Rothesay County Championship, bringing a wealth of experience from domestic cricket in Australia and at international level.

Weatherald has built a reputation as one of Australia’s most dynamic top-order batters. Known for his aggressive stroke play and ability to take the game away from opposition attacks, he has amassed thousands of runs across first-class, List A and T20 cricket during a professional career spanning more than a decade.

The Australian will strengthen Warwickshire’s batting line-up as the Bears target success in the Rothesay County Championship in 2027.

Strength

Warwickshire Performance Director James Thomas said: “Jake is a player we’ve admired for a long time. He is a proven performer who has scored heavily at the highest level and gives us additional strength at the top of the order.

“He scored runs for Leicestershire summer and will be eager to come back to England and impress ahead of The Ashes next year. We think he will be a fantastic fit for our dressing room and an exciting player for our members and supporters to watch.”

Weatherald will be available from the opening stages of the 2027 campaign.
