The scale of this defeat, despite the stout resistance from Harris and Simpson, was not lost on a sombre Middlesex dressing room. The club now languishes near the bottom of the table with promotion already looking a distant prospect unless they can turn things around quickly. Had the players not been forced off early on day three by the weather it is likely that Robinson would have run through the rest of the batting then.
