I’m still struggling to get my head around the fact that we’ve had two rounds of County Championship fixtures by mid-April, and a third is underway. At this time of year, you’d still like to be playing practice matches. Ideally overseas!

County Championship performances should always be a factor when it comes to Test selection, but it’s difficult to place too much weight on them at this point in the season when the pitches resemble plasticine, with very little pace and carry.
