There are no easy answers when it comes to England’s spin conundrum as they consider their options for the first Test of the summer against New Zealand.
Traditionally, your spinner wouldn’t do a massive amount of work at this early stage of the season.
You’d be expecting your seamers to dominate, which opens the door to a ‘luxury’ player, perhaps a leg-spinner – someone who can make an impact in a short space of time with the ball, mopping up the tail or changing the game if a partnership develops, while also offering useful lower-order runs.
