Andrew Neal’s breakthrough at Hampshire has underlined the value of the MCCU pathway – and the 26-year-old fears English cricket could pay the price after funding for the university programme was cut.

Andrew Neal has graduated from this year’s Metro Bank One-Day Cup campaign with flying colours – but the man himself fears that English cricket could pay a heavy price for turning its back on the University programme that helped to hone his skills and those of countless others.
Neal – who was handed a lifeline back into the professional game by Hampshire during their One-Day Cup campaign last summer – came through the system with Leeds/Bradford.
