In a spin: Ollie Rayner says the uncontested toss doesn’t do spinners any favours
THE UNCONTESTED toss rule has failed the very cricketers it was introduced for, according to Ollie Rayner.
The ECB dispensed with the need for a toss at the start of the 2016 season, hoping to promote the almost lost art of spin bowling in Championship cricket.
Off-spinner Rayner, never frightened to stand up for the slow-bowlers’ union, concedes there was an initial steering away from the production of traditional seam-friendly green-tops – more for fear of points deductions...
