After a delayed start due to morning rain, Joe Root, back in his old captain’s blazer, won the toss under grey skies and asked New Zealand to bat first. A new-look England side took the field, including three debutants and the returning Matt Fisher, with Root the only surviving player from the first game of the McCullum era.
