Hampshire batter Joe Weatherley pens contract extension
Batter Joe Weatherley has signed a new deal with Hampshire until at least the end of the 2028 season.
Joe Weatherley has signed a new contract with Hampshire which will see the experienced batter remain at Utilita Bowl until at least the end of the 2028 season.
Born in Winchester, the 29-year-old is a product of Hampshire Cricket’s highly successful pathway and has played 211 matches for the club across all formats.
He ranks third on the club’s all-time leading T20 run-scoring charts with 2,741 – behind only James Vince and Michael Carberry.

T20 impact
At Vitality Blast Finals Day in July this year, Weatherley scored an unbeaten 88 in the semi-final against Notts Outlaws and followed it up with 75 as the Hawks lost to Northants Steelbacks in the final.
The two innings made him the first man to score twin fifties on a single Finals Day and also the highest individual scorer on a Finals Day.
Across all four T20 Finals Day appearances, Weatherley has now racked up 330 runs in six innings at an average of 82.50.
On signing his new deal, Weatherley said: “I’m really pleased to extend my contract with Hampshire.
“This club has been my home for twenty years and over ten years professionally, and I love playing my cricket and being part of the dressing room here at Utilita Bowl.
“We’ve got a great group of players, and I’m motivated to contribute across formats and continue our success, particularly in white-ball cricket – where we’ve been in knockouts and finals regularly – and bring some trophies home.”
Integral member
Weatherley made his senior debut in April 2016 and has gone on to represent Hampshire in over 200 matches – 110 of which have been in T20s.
He scored his first fifty on his First-Class debut, and a maiden professional century for Hampshire came in the club’s title-winning Royal London Cup campaign when Weatherley smashed an unbeaten 105 against Kent at Utilita Bowl.
Weatherley has lifted two trophies with Hampshire, both in white-ball cricket, when the team won the 2018 Royal London Cup – beating Kent Spitfires by 61 runs in the final – and the 2022 Vitality Blast.
Across his career at Hampshire, Weatherley has accumulated 6,163 runs with 31 fifties and five hundreds.
Giles White, Director of Cricket, added: “Joe has become an integral member of the squad and a match winner in white-ball cricket.
“His Blast record this year was exceptional, topped by two half-centuries at Finals Day.
“We are delighted that he has committed his future to the club for a further two years.”
