THE cricket authorities appear to have got away with it this year but it would only take a rain-affected spring in the future to make a nonsense of the new seasonal format.
Starting this first-class season on March 26 – virtually a full month earlier than some seasons in the not too distant past – was on the face of it absurd.
A relatively mild spring meant most of the matches were completed but those shivering at Weetwood when Leeds/Bradford MCCU took on Yorkshire would probably have preferred to have been in the warmth of their front rooms.
