First-class cricket’s longest serving scorer, Yorkshire’s John Potter, 71, did not record a run or a wicket as Yorkshire’s opening match against champions Essex this week was washed out without a ball being bowled at Headingley.
Potter, despite his first game as scorer coming at Edgbaston in May 1988, had never officiated at a Yorkshire four-day match wiped out completely until then.
