A PLUSH BAR aboard a stationary cruise liner isn’t the most obvious setting to contemplate the approaching county season. But a fortnight ago at Tilbury Docks, where the arrival of the Empire Windrush in 1948 heralded a new chapter for its passengers, Essex laid out their own plans for the summer.
Chris Silverwood, Essex’s Director of Cricket was discussing his own fresh start. Prior to becoming the England head coach in 2019, he had enjoyed a successful stint at Essex which culminated in the first division county championship title in 2017.
