Scott Currie isn’t a man prone to displays of emotion, so it was immediately clear that he had just pulled off something truly sensational.
“I texted him at the end of the game and said, ‘You must have enjoyed that catch – because I saw you smile after taking it’,” laughs Steve Wilson, a man who has coached the Hampshire all-rounder since the age of eight.
The catch in question was a sensational one-handed effort against Somerset in the group stage of the T20 Blast back in July, when he instinctively pulled off a caught and bowled for the ages to dismiss Tom Abell.
