Amid the popping champagne corks and smoked salmon sarnies that accompany your typical Lord’s crowd came the widespread refrain that it was great to see batters not have things their own way for once. While joy might be stretching the point, many felt it was fascinating to see struggle and angst on a cricket pitch that for once wasn’t etched on the faces of bowlers watching the ball fly to or over the boundary.
