Had it not been for a pushy teacher at his primary school, Somerset quick bowler Nathan Gilchrist, 18, might never have even tried the sport he now plays for a living.
Gilchrist, brought up in South Africa, signed his first professional contract with the county in September last year after graduating from the club’s academy.
He first came to England as part of a cricket exchange scheme between St Stithians in Johannesburg and King’s College, Taunton in 2016 before his potential was spotted by Somerset.
