Sri Lanka begin Asia Cup with Bangladesh win

MATHEESHA PATHIRANA took 4-32 as Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh by five wickets in their opening match of the Asia Cup at Pallekele. Bangladesh were bowled out for 164 after choosing to bat first, with Najmul Hossain Shanto the only batter to make a substantial score. He finished on 89, with the next highest score Towhid Hridoy’s 20. In response Sri Lanka were reduced to 43-3 before half-centuries from Sadeera Samarawickrama and Charith Asalanka kept the hosts on track. Shakib Al Hasan took 2-29 from his 10 overs for Bangladesh but victory for Sri Lanka was sealed with 11 overs...
