PS Good to see James Anderson ending the year not only in brilliant form but also with a smile on his face. Many feared susceptibility to injuries and time had taken their toll on England’s leading wicket-taker. His first five-for in Australia, albeit on an Adelaide evening made for his bowling, was good enough. But how priceless was his reaction when, after two positive lbw decisions had been overturned by DRS predictions that the balls would have been going over the stumps, a thick edge failed to carry to Jonny Bairstow. “You are joking,” he chuckled.
