The relationship between modern sport and morality has become increasingly strained in the past few decades. That is, if it ever truly existed.
As the run-out of Jonny Bairstow in the second Ashes Test proved, cricket fans are experts at identifying those gaps between what the laws say you can do and what the ethics say you should.
But we tend to only make an issue of them when the moral weight tips the balance in our favour.
