Surrey’s second County Championship in as many years has meant the last seven seasons have been much like the 1980s when Essex and Middlesex were the two teams bossing the game, with seven titles between them. This time it is that other London county, south of the river, who have been sharing the spoils with Essex, a tally which, since 2017, stands at three apiece provided the Bob Willis Trophy counts as a quasi-Championship, which essentially it was.
