Back when I was a teenager playing for Hinckley Town CC in the early 1990s, I had an experimental phase. In cricketing terms, that is. I tried out off-spin and leg-spin too, before settling on my dibblydobbers. I also had a spell as a wicketkeeper. It was a lot of fun standing back and diving around. But standing up to the stumps? Now that was a different kettle of fish. Lots of bruises. Not so much fun. My keeping career was short-lived.
