One of the perks of being Governor of Bombay in 1950 was that you got your own first-class cricket team. The skipper of the Bombay Governor’s XI was Raja Maharaj Singh. Yep, you’ve guessed it, he was the Governor. He was also 72 years old.
The match was against the touring Commonwealth XI, who were playing 27 first-class matches, including five unofficial Tests against an All India XI and one against All Ceylon.
