Nicholls’ maiden ton rescues poor start

NEW Zealand are without Trent Boult and Ross Taylor for this second Test, but that didn’t stop the Black Caps from having the best of day one.
Bowler Boult was ruled out with a leg injury that he picked up in the first Test, which rain ultimately got the better of things, with no play possible on the final day as the match ended in a draw. Ross Taylor tore his calf in that Test too and he is a doubt for the rest of the series.
